Press Release
THE RESIDENCES AT BULLE ROCK OPENS 37,000-SQUARE-FOOT RESIDENTS' CLUB
HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. (June 14, 2007) –After much anticipation, The Residences at Bulle Rock has opened its 37,000-square-foot Residents' Club at 1200 Bulle Rock Pkwy. The facility serves as the social and recreational centerpiece of the resort-style community being built in Havre de Grace, Md., around the five-star Bulle Rock Golf Course: Maryland's #1 public golf course and home of the McDonald's LPGA Championship.
Designed by Gaudreau Inc., land planned by Morris Ritchie & Associates, Inc. (MRA), built by Manekin Construction and decorated by Marc-Michaels Interior Design, Inc., the facility was fashioned to become the premier facility of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic region.
The building draws stylistic cues from Churchill Downs' clubhouse and the English manor house tradition. It features slate tile-style shingle roofing, Tuscan columns, arched windows, a ramble-pattern fieldstone water table and clapboard walls. Two projecting octagonal bays at the front entrance colonnade are punctuated by lofty windows and topped with towering spires.
Inside, the Residents' Club features turn-of-the-century American design with neo-Classical details and contemporary lighting. The overall theme is casual elegance and comfort to enhance the year-round resort lifestyle offered at The Residences at Bulle Rock.
UPPER LEVEL
Creamy travertine stone floors and elaborate coffered ceilings compounded with crown molding and recessed lighting are featured throughout most of the upper level. Looking out to spectacular views of the Chesapeake Bay, a dramatic rotunda in the center features a dome ceiling with dark rustic beams, detailed wood floor, and comfortable seating area decorated in terra cotta, chocolate and ice blue tones. Continuing with the formality of the rotunda space, two curving wooden staircases descend to the lower level.
On the east side of the rotunda is a cyber café that enables "wi-fi," with laptop hookups. Offering a coffee shop ambience, the room comprises wooden tables and upholstered chairs. The adjacent kitchen features bakery artwork, microwave and convection ovens, stainless steel appliances, wooden cabinets, granite countertops, a refrigerator and coffee makers.
A player piano is located in front of the café area, while French doors behind the café lead outside to the upper level terrace which runs the length of the building. The terrace features comfortable bronze and crème gliders, chairs and tables for outdoor dining or simply enjoying the views above or through the contemporary clear balustrade.
The upper terrace looks outward to the bay and downward to the putting green, bocce and tennis courts, outdoor pool, cabana and spa, and party tent area below. Also visible is the lower level terrace featuring chaise lounges, wrought iron chairs and tables with umbrellas, and numerous flower pots located throughout the terrace to augment the natural landscaping.
Next to the kitchen is a hallway with the Residents' Art Gallery, featuring rotating exhibits by local artists. The debut exhibit by Del Hostetler, an 85-year-old former Army aviation engineer who resides in Bel Air, includes paintings of racehorses and scenes around the Bulle Rock Golf Course.
The gallery hallway leads to the ballroom, which is decorated in gold and light blue shades. Featuring a barreled ceiling, gold damask draperies, chandeliers and a projection screen, the ballroom can accommodate table seating for approximately 200 guests or can be divided into three smaller meeting rooms with events occurring simultaneously.
Overall, the ballroom can house a variety of functions including dances, weddings, meetings, lectures, dinners, watching movies and major televised sporting events, and other fun activities arranged by Kathy Harper, The Residences at Bulle Rock's full-time lifestyle director.
Perpendicular to the ballroom is the library, decorated in chocolate and sage coloring. A modern flat screen TV contrasts with the wooden cabinets, English writing desk and other traditional elements of the room. An old-fashioned game board is available for residents to play checkers, Chinese checkers, chess or Bunko. Bookcases currently are stocked with classics such as Twain and Shakespeare; however, a library system will be in place wherein residents can borrow the classics and replace them with other literary works.
On the west side of the rotunda is the comfortable lounge with a wood and Empadora Dark fireplace and beveled mirror as its focal point. Next to the lounge is the billiards room, decorated in chocolate, terra cotta, sage and rust tones. It features two full-size billiards tables, a built-in bar, flat screen TV, pendant lighting, merlot-colored draperies, sporting and equestrian artwork, and a mix of high and low tables and chairs.
Behind the lounge is a solarium, which evokes the feel of a sunroom in one's home. Decorated in green and gold with dark wood tables, it features a ceramic slate floor, green leaf design rug and greenery throughout.
Next to the solarium is the Sales & Marketing Center with its 3-D, 108-inch x 108-inch octagonal topographic model illustrating the entire layout of the 1,000-acre Bulle Rock community and golf course.
To the left of the Sales & Marketing Center is a wall with glass windows overlooking the indoor pool and spa directly below. Featured prominently above the window wall is The Residences at Bulle Rock slogan, "Life Imitates Vacation."
Elegant settees are situated in the hallway for onlookers to sit and gaze at the pool or to view the art displayed on the opposite wall. In a gallery-like setting, square niches carved into the walls house colorful custom-made ceramic pottery. The area is highlighted by recessed halogen lighting and hammered metal scones for added interest.
LOWER LEVEL
The lower level is dedicated to The Bulle Rock Fitness and Aquatic Center. Its group exercise room comprises state-of-the-art Life Fitness machines, including treadmills, ellipticals, upright and recumbent bikes, and strength equipment.
While working out on the machines, exercisers can watch TV on the many monitors throughout the room. They also can gaze outdoors or view Pilates, yoga, step and body sculpting classes occurring in the aerobics studio across the hall.
Featuring mirrored walls, a flat screen TV and a suspended wood floor for reduced impact, the aerobics studio contains steps, stability balls, free weights, body bars and yoga mats. Coming soon is a separate spinning studio with LeMond cycling bikes and additional free weights.
The indoor pool area features support columns, mosaic detailing and ceramic floors throughout. It connects to the men's and women's locker rooms, both of which are nicely appointed and feature saunas, steam rooms and whirlpools.
After working up a sweat exercising, swimming, playing tennis or relaxing in the locker rooms, residents can quench their thirst in the juice bar area. Situated under a dome by the spiraling staircases, the space features café seating, and wet bar with refrigerators, sinks and beverage dispensers.
The Bulle Rock Fitness and Aquatic Center is managed by Mid-Atlantic Corporate Health, which designs and manages fitness and wellness centers for residential communities, corporations and commercial real estate developments. In addition to the certified lifeguards at both pools, four full-time fitness professionals with exercise science or exercise physiology backgrounds are regularly on hand at The Bulle Rock Fitness and Aquatic Center.
As part of their monthly Homeowners Association fees, Bulle Rock residents receive complimentary fitness assessments, one-on-one equipment orientations and personalized fitness plans. They also have free use of the exercise equipment and can participate in the exercise classes. Swim lessons, personal training and massage therapy in the facility's two private massage rooms will be offered for a fee.
ACTIVITIES
Bulle Rock residents can visit The Residents' Club at their leisure or stop by to participate in organized social events and club meetings. Already, the residents have formed the following clubs: Mommies and Me, Walkies & Talkies, Wine Tasting Club, Gourmet Club, Scrapbooking Group, a nine-hole Mixed Golf League and Book Club, which will coordinate book exchanges in the Residents' Club library.
Plans call for forming a singles group, cards and games groups, Chess Club, Grandmommies Club, Garden Club, Cribbage Club, Tennis League, and Men's Golf League. The Residents' Club also will host bocce and putting contests, meet-the-artist receptions, art lessons, dance lessons, craft fairs, travel presentations, residents' parties and other activities to encourage mingling among the residents.
"In addition to being gorgeous, the Residents' Club is 100 percent multipurpose and so many activities can occur at the same time," Harper said. "The sky is the limit."
